What is it?
A mobile interface frame to sketch a User Interface of what an application might look like. This template also includes a storyboard outline to indicate how using this app helps contribute to an overall IoT solution.
Using a collection of these templates helps outline the different features an app might do.
The storyboard element helps explain how using the app does something useful in a specific scenario. If the mobile app has any other purposes this can also be added, such as getting the GPS location, making a phone call, playing a music track or using the accelerometer to detect position.
Why use it?
Visualising a solution helps you to workout the finer details and uncover less obvious points in how exactly a solution might work. It also makes talking to others much easier with a visual aid.
Ultimately these early mockups can be converted into wireframes and designed by a development team, mockups provide a good starting point for gathering further requirements.
When should it be used?
By the time you have a solution in mind, and assuming it requires some technological wizardry, there’s probably going to be an app involved. When there’s a specific feature, function or display required using a Smart phone – use this template.
How to use
Grab a template and pens to sketch out what the user interface might look like, how the data will be visualised and how specific controls might appear and indicate what they do in the real world.
Hints
If there’s no need for a mobile app in your solution, don’t use it. There are UI Screen Mockups for Desktop, Mobile, Web browser and Smart watch interfaces.
You don’t need to be a User Experience expert or artists to use this, a basic sketch and some description can go a long way to helping others understand.
Even if you are not that creative, basic sketches and ‘stickman drawings’ will help with explaining user journeys.
